"What Football Means To Me ...." Book Launch 23rd April 2023
13th April 2023
If you love football then this is the book for you!
From Aberdeen to Ashington, Dereham to Durham, Glasgow to Gateshead, Milnrow to Middlesbrough and Sunderland to Swansea, What Football Means To Me…. captures what football means to those who play, watch, coach, officiate and administrate the Beautiful Game.
With forewords from Paul Carr, Chief Executive & Founder Walking Football Association & Stevie Woodrow, Founder England Transplant Football Team, “What Football Means To Me…..” captures the football journeys and life changing experiences for those who have a passionate connection with football at all levels and all abilities.
This project has provided me with some fantastic opportunities to meet so many inspirational people who all have one thing in common, a love for football. Their portraits and accompanying words illustrate the importance of football in their lives and the passionate manner in which they engage with the game.
Excerpts from “What Football Means To Me …..”:
“Football has released my from the tyranny of loneliness.”
“I love football as I find it a place to come and turn off from all my ongoing problems.”
“Football means the place I was born; it has shaped my identity.”
“If I wasn’t good enough to play the game professionally, writing about it for a living is the next best thing.”
“Who knows how far I can go with it, hopefully one day refereeing the professional game.”
“My Grandad passed away in 2021, but because of my Grandad my love of football continues.”
“One ball brings everyone together which is something special.”
“Football to me encapsulates life: the moments of despair and exhilaration, the disasters and fleeting triumphs.”
“Win, lose or draw, there’s always next week!”
“A new dream was born: if not a player then a sportswriter I would be!”
"What Football Means To Me ....." launches formally on 23rd April 2023, World Book & Copyright Day, but is available now to order in book and eBook formats at Amazon UK.
